Fairig problem

OK...probably did it wrong...

Its been 18 hours since I applied fairing compound made of System III medium cure epoxy and 410 fairing compound filler...thiking I knew what I was doing I mixed the filler and the resin together first and then I added the hardener and mixed pretty dam good...maybe not enough...been 18+ hours and its still soft enough that I can dent it with a fingernail...some thinner sections are hard...Reading the instructions it says to mix both parts of resin BEFORE adding the filler...maybe this is the problem...or is the weather...cool and 50-65 degrees and humid...

Should I wait a few more hours and see if it cures or go ahead adn pressure wash most of it off and sand the rest off and start over?

I used the Syatem III and have been real happy with it so far...dont have a source for quick fair here or I would have used it...needed an epoxy fairing compoud cause I'm going over old gel coat and onto new epoxy and glass transom...any help is appreciated...

it's too cold, move the boat into the living room!!!! seriously, it is too cold for that stuff to kick, temp should be in the 70's, good luck. In the future try awlfair, made by awlgrip, lots less hassle

Where are you located. A lot of distributors will ship Quick Fair.

Probably temp...wait a couple days just to see before you scrap it and start over. Get quick fair shipped to you.

I don't think this is a temperature issue, as even with those temps the mix should have cured. I think you may have gotten your ratios off and therefore the epoxy won't cure.

Quickfair is great stuff, but expensive. For minor fairing you can't beat Evercoats polyester fairing compounds. I know its not Marine or epoxy but I was turned on to it by one of the best local fiberglass/retoration shops on Long Island. I have no complaints other then a very fast working time in hot weather.

Try putting a heater in the boat to 'warm' things up or try a hair dryer on a section... see if that helps.

Did you make sure you are using the right pumps? there 2 different sets for the sizes. Mix another small batch without the powder and put it somewhere warm and see if it flashes off.
