Tee Top too tall!!!
My Tee Top is way too tall for me. I am aware standard height is somewhere under 7 feet or a little less?? I am only 5'11"
How could I lower this tee top?? I had a person give me a price of $300 to lower for my needs..seems steep to me. Any ideas how I can do this myself? I was thinking of cutting abpout 5 " off of four support pipes and then adding larger diameter pipe over existing cut pipe ..like a sleeve to join together and using bolts to secure? or a step stool if I wanted to use rod holders!!! All help appreciated.. Also thinking of getting rid of tee top altogether and just going with a bimini?? Thanks in advance -Fred Last edited by fdheld34; 02-08-2012 at 03:41 PM. |

Fred, looks like yours mounts to the floor so not a big deal. I altered my rod arch that way but rather using smaller pipe on the inside of the cut out sections and then welding a bead around each of the butt joints. I think a weld is better than a couple of bolts through each tubing but I guess that would probably work for a good long while.
You'll have to cut the tube near the feet get the inserts in and welded, then patch the front or rear mounting holes on the deck and remount. I put the inserts on a friends lathe and reduced the pipe a hair to get a snug fit. Its also important to get clean 90 deg cuts for re-connecting cleanly so use a metal chop saw. Good luck and save a few bucks.

Great info Gillie..never thought of making "pins"!!!
I was thinking of removing the electronics box...being that this will be a cruising boat and all one of my electronics will fit on dash..plus no neck cramps etc!!! What I was thinking.... After removal of electronics box, I was going to cut the 4 supports down 5 inches located above horizontal supports that sit currently below ebox. The support poles are straight up and down and parallel to eachother where the electronics box is located. Thought that would be a good place to cut...that way do not have to worry about remount etc... but now thinking that going from bottom makes more sense per you suggestion. Gillie..any pics of arch upclose regarding fabrication. I remember it from about three years ago or so Thanks so much.. .all other input and ideas appreciated -Fred |

Make sure you won't bang your head on the front when you step down off the casting deck. I'm 6' and that could be a problem if I lowered mine.
