Gonna Go For It - 23 SF

I've been looking for a 23 for quite awhile...came across this one, didn't seem too bad from pictures. First shot is the way I picked it up. Had twins on it, they were removed. Got back home and started to figure out how I wanted to put this boat back together. I decided to go for it all-in. Just gutted everything. Pulled console, got into the tank and floors.

Gonna put all new floors in, new tank, redo the whole console, allgrip the boat and everything else NEW.

I might be on here a few times to pick brains as its my first Seacraft and want to make it right!

What yr? Damn gas tank look huge looks like they may have cut out the in deck tank in front of the CC to get it in!

The tank is original. The boat had twin's, if that makes a difference in the size of a tank. I think it's a 125 or 136 gallon tank, the sticker was faded, this tank has never been out of the boat. The deck hatch went all the way forward to the raised casting platform. There was no hatch in front of the console in the floor. It was in there pretty tight, a mf to remove and clean up. Part of the process...

Just pulled mine up and its the exact same size. Absolutely enormous

I see a few members raise their decks up about 2" or so,when replacing them.. is this needed? my boat is a 85 23 SF, transom is set for a 30" single ,or 25" for twins.It was a twin engine boat.I am ready for the a new deck laydown,and was going to keep the height the way it was.my plan for repower is a second hand two stroke 225- 250 Yamaha.should I lift the deck some?it will be a different plan on the resto,I will do it ,if it's nessasary,I am ready for the deck laydown in a week or so...watta ya think??

If your going back with a big single two stroke I would leave the deck height alone.

The 1980's 23's had the 135 gallon tanks and no storage box in the console or forward fish box.

so I got into the foam, most of it was good but half empty,filled all the cavitys.going with 3/4 marine plywood for the floor. the sections are cut, fitted and glassed with 1708 on the bottoms for now.got rid of tons of potter putty,glassed all the top holes of foam and shimmed the decks with marine ply sections fore and aft for a nice crownand a tight fit .all wood is encapsulated in 1708 glass.the 3" rigging tubes are new on both sides,and have 45 degrees elbows up under the console area.I'm a wood guy,this will be a super tough deck.good for at least 40 years,after that I wont be around...

If you haven't already glassed the 3" rigging tubes in yet, you may want to go with a larger diameter. I have 5" at least in my 20 with a single 115 and I wish I had gone bigger.
