life in florida
after living here for a month:
man ! I love it here !!!! weather's great - people are actually nice ! example: I was in publix,the nice cashier lady was talking to me,not fake talking,she was asking me where I was from,the usual - she said I have an accent...the line behind me was backing up...NO ONE was excited !! in jersey,there would've been a riot ! there's a lot of interesting characters around here,large homeless population in Daytona beach - they sleep on the beach ?? my block is very quiet ! neighbors are completely cool taking my flats boat out,for really the first time - a gentleman with the hewes version of mine,he seen us,and walked over with his bucket of live finger mullet - he gave them to me can't believe people are this nice ! I've docked the big boat - why ANYONE would want to use a ramp is beyond me ?? makes no sense - slip price was actually cheaper than what I paid in jersey...go figure that one out ?? fuel is pretty high @ the dock $3.75 - .15cents per gallon discount for being a dock customer - ethanol free ?? like that really matters... that's a debate for another time.... nice dock ! clean,and people are really friendly ! the parks and ramps are FREE !!! I towed my flats boat down to riverbreeze park,to fish mosquito lagoon - what a nice facility ! FREE !! the FWC guys,completley cool !!! it's nice,being able to ride around on my road king at nite...it was really funny,it was around 55 in the morning,kids were going to school - with hats and gloves on ?? I laughed !!! a CCW is easy to get !! everyone has weapons !! just about everyone fishes - and a complete stranger,he told me I was throwing my cast net the wrong way - he gave me a lesson for about a half hour - Christ !! I throw the friggin' umbrella now !! still don't know why I waited so long to move down here !!! just wanted to share that with you guys....

Glad to hear it Pelican. Southern hospitality ain't just a sayin'...
Now take off your mukluks, put away yer parka go have boat drink, bum a reefer from the neighbor playing the Jimmy Buffet records - and relax... you're in FL now...

Lived here all my life but go to Jersey for Eagel game a couple of times a year. Seems like quite a hassle to live there. I could also see how having snow on the ground for 150-200 days a year would make me miserable to live with to.
One thing they do have up there is some amazing food.

Daytona does have a larger homeless population than other places in Florida, not sure why.
Debate or not, I buy ethanol free fuel for my lawnmowers and my boat. But around here yes it is more expensive at the docks, so I got to a gas station that has a seperate ethanol free pump. Glad you are enjoying yourself and your boat. I like to think that we are more friendly because more of us are Christians than other parts of the country. Around my area there is a church on every block, lol. Regardless of the reason, though it is nice that people help each other, give fishing advice and are generally more friendly.

You will be "Crackerfied" before you know it..
 All of the boat ramps, parks and piers on the east side of the county are some of the finest in the state ! They are still free for now.. New Smyrna has been tossing around the idea of charging for the parking.  River Breeze Park was one of the parks that was funded by the Port Authority while I was serving as chairman. Glad you found a slip / dry stack for the Topaz.. I keep the No Bones at Inlet Harbor when the "Rays" show up in the spring for fast access !
