Default Indeck livewell plumbing.

'86 23cc.

When the boat came to us it had the livewell disconnected. I cannot find a diagram or literature on how the factory plumbed these things. I know they are not the best design and it's honestly just been a place to store ice these past few years. But it's there and I'd like to see if I can't get it working so I can use it once in a while. I did a Google search and everything I found was not factory.

If it turns into a complete pain then I'll end up just doing what most do and get a barrel.....

Anyone got any insight/pictures on factory setups?

Thanks

Factory '84 just drained straight out the transom. Fill when you stop, empty when you run. Plug it or put in a valve if you want to keep the water in. Certainly not ideal but keeps bait for a couple hours

Thank you. Time to pull the hatch up and see what's been plugged.

This water pickup was on the trim tab when I bought the boat back in 93. I've changed hoses and rerouted them over the years. I didn't wish to make any more holes in the bottom and it pushes a lot of water into the well when moving. I have a length of pvc pipe that I screw onto the drain when using, to keep the water level constant.

thats the first time I have seen a pick up mounted on a trim tab.

to plumb it right you would need a fill and an overflow, thats at least on extra hole for the overflow. An option that would help would be a re-circulation or aerator pump, it would keep the bait longer and not require an overflow

Not sure I would have thought about putting it on the trim tab, but since it was already there, I have been using it. It dose not affect the operation of the trim tab, except that one time I didn't have enough slack in the hose and it pulled off the fitting. I looked back to see a stream of water shooting up about fifteen feet in the air.
I have since put a fitting on the port tab for my wash down.
I did have an aerator pump at one time, but it would sometimes get clogged up with scales when I had a lot of bait. Looking at other options.

On my 20cc, the drain doesn't have enough back pressure so it overflows into the well when at idle. Is there a ball scupper fitting I should be looking for?

Also, a standard tube does not fit the drain. For now I have a pvc drain wrapped in a rubber gasket (bike tube) to make the seal. Anyone have something that fits better?

Not sure what you mean Standard tube not fitting drain. I have a brass fitting with pipe thread in the live well that fits the pvc. If you have a street thread, there are adapters. If no thread, why not change fittings.

Standard drain tube from WestMarine on left that doesn't fit. PVC on the right fits the I.D. But either way water pressure overflows the top of the tube. Looks like this is not supposed to be a recirculating design? So, fill/drain on the run, and maybe an aerator will help in between.
