As for the panel ... I wouldn’t build it up with mat. That might take awhile..I would put core material in like aircell or balsa (I think you can get that stuff 1/4") even luan would work....Then on the molding board...a good layer of Gel coat first ...let it slightly tack up/kick ...layer of mat ... resin .... core material ... resin and mat to finish the back side…..
