This is a pretty simple way that I was told to do it:
1. Hold your framing square so the short leg points up and the long leg points toward the bow of the boat. 2. Place the square so the tip of the short leg contacts the transom and the long legs sits flush against the bottom of the keel. 3. Measure the distance from the bottom of the transom to the framing square. Every 1/4 inch equalls 1 degree.
