It's been an interesting 9 months. Without getting into details, KATE is in the good hands of Young's Fiberglass in Marmora, NJ finally getting the attention she deserves. The Yanmar is at Holtz's waiting for the body work to be done.

Anyway,I wanted to post some progress pics of how things are going.

Test fit of engine (not going to move it forward, won't work, but it sounded good at the time)

Bottom has been soda blasted, patched, faired, and barrier coated

New transom and stringer risers in place with test deck removed

Test fitting of deck and transom cap. The rear liner is not going back and the ice/bait wells are being removed and covered. The deck will go to the transom on the sides (you can see the skin applied directly to the transom). The scuppers will go directly through the transon eliminating the need for tubes to the liner. The middle area will have a cover to hide the rudder, tank fills, and other stuff mounted to the transom.

Console modifications - extended visor around the dash area (hard to see) and I conerted the flip up storage box to a drawer.

That's it for now but work is moving fast. Will try to update at least weekly.

Nice looking boat Ralph. Can you post a picture taken from the bow overlooking the engine compartment, trans, shaft and the rudder as well as the steering ram area? Also can you get a close up top view of the rudder campartment and steering ram compartment if it's seperate? Thanks for your help. Aloha, Greg from Hawaii

Thanks for the comments guys

Snookered, moving the engine forward would be nice but it just got too risky since I'm not doing all the work myself and I couldn't get everybody on the same page. The Yanmar fits the old mount footprint exactly and it's just too costly to reinvent it. I still think it's a good idea but Mr. Potter put it where it was for a reason so i'll stick with that.

26, I will post whatever pictures I have of the area but the rudder support is not rebuilt yet. Let me know what you want to see as it moves along.

Ralph-Makes sense with the same footprint. Your documentation on the project is the one of the most detailed of the 23 diesel inboards on CSC to date. Thank you.

Looks good, the Young's did my boat in and out several years ago and we still talk once in a while. Dan actually called me yesterday and mentioned he was working on a 23' IB. They are great guys who do qaulity work. Don did my handrail which came out great. I considered the Yanmar initially but ran out of 'double secret slush fund cash' at the time.:..(although my divorce has now cost more than the Yanmar...so what was the point of that little bit of useless self control : )....but I'm not bitter...

You are in good hands.Keep us posted. Good idea to drop moving the console back...thats a major CF.

Here's some update photos of the progress. Both shots are of the bilge. The outward compartments are foamed and a PVC raceway is installed on both sides. The bilge is coated with an imrom industrial coating.

First shot aft showing the tanks installed. A sacrificial piece of plywood is laminated and glassed over on the transom so I don't have to put screws directly into the new core when mounting hardware.

Second shot forward showing the engine compartment and raceways.

Deck should be going in next week.

Jeff, Dan showed me some pictures of your rig. Very nice. I'm very sorry to hear about your self control...no secret slush fund here...everything is full disclosure
