Re: Seafari ceiling
Denny / Bushwacker brought me a sample today. Not what I expected at all. Just your basic nylon plush carpet. @ $2.40 per s.f..

Bumping this old thread. So my original mousefur shag ceiling is in pretty decent shape, save for the hatch cover, which has mildew on it and it's kinda "nappy" and gross. My question is regarding cleaning it... I may just try dawn, warm water with a little bleach, and scrub gently with a soft bristled brush. Thoughts!?
Interesting to note, every girl I've ever dated/married has hated the material, and strongly urged for an upholstery upgrade. I've toyed with replacing it, but just can't bring myself to do it! EDIT: hatch removed, cleaned, and reinstalled with new hatch adjusters. |

I bought my wife a bissell carpet cleaner had a hand held wand. Or you might be able to rent a carpet cleaner that has a hand held attachment from a store. Mine is ace locally in Hawaii. Not sure elsewhere.
My seafari had a white shag that was mildewed, water logged, and falling off. It pulled right off. Check this how to out. Not paid or anything. But very helpful on my seafari resto job. http://www.sailrite.com/How-to-Insta...eadliner-Video |

Replacing a girlfriend or wife is always costly !! My suggestion would be, do not put those girls in a position that they see the shag carpet while you are in the cabin ... I know this will keep you on your back, but will save you money in the long run.

Now that my ceiling is all new and sprayed with gelcoat I understand why carpet was added. With all this rain the condensations is bad and when I went into the cabin this weekend everything was pretty wet. I think the carpet was done to help wick and dry such moisture but who knows. At this point I am running a fan to keep the cabin dry and it is working well. Next week I'm installing the bow hatch and hope that will take the place of the fan to keep it dry up front before the mildew starts.

Cabin Mousefur
Amazing our '76 Seafari mousefur is original, clean and in pretty good shape. Did have to remove it from the hatch. Under side windows and one other spot a little saggy; but not bad enough to mess with. Lasted much better than the headliners I ripped out of a couple cars. In one saggy spot considered slitting it a little to squirt some spray adhesive. But guessed the cure might be worse than the illness. Anyone tried this?
Hey NoBones- we both laughed at your remark. See you and Patty in Sept. |
