Prob 2 late for tips, but I just replaced the bow eye on my 23, I did not like the skimpy stainless backing that comes with bow eyes, so grabbed a big piece of steel and drilled out 2 holes for the backing plate. required an extra long bow eye screw threads to have the room to play with.

You meant to say "a big piece of stainless steel".....right? At minimum, aluminum. If not, I can hear the rust already. My 2 cents worth.
