Re: 30\" Suzuki on Bracket
With a light load, I can get to about 41/42 WOT, with heavey load or wind, 39. Sweet spot on these motors seems to be 43-4500, which is 29-31 mph. On flat days, a nice cruise speed.
I think the motor is hung a tad bit low, where do you guys with Suzukis have the water hitting the lower unit? |

Re: 30\" Suzuki on Bracket
go 30" shaft, especially on a bracket. I have a 25" verado on a 30" bracket armstrong. bought that way.
get the glass bracket from hermco. spend the extra money-you will save it when you go to deal with metal hanging off the back and painting down the road. get as much positive flotation as can with the bracket. dts is pretty cool though, and I can mount my hydraulic steering under the console . however i will never let anyone at the helm again near the dock, they refuse to listen to ya when ya say-careful on the DTS you cant hear the motor and it is sensitive. almost ate my shorts when went to get the trailer and watched fiance throw the boat into reverse. folks are used to loud engines and cabling.

Re: 30\" Suzuki on Bracket
I haven't mounted a hermco or 30" bracket, but what I found in mounting mine, is you wanted to get the bracket as far down in the water as possible, to get the max floatation at rest, then I had to mount the motor in the 2nd from the top hole to get the cavitation plate right. If this was a 30" motor, you would need 5" of height on the mounting plate to get the bottom of the motor to the same place, or have to move the bracket up. I am sure someone has worked that out, but I haven't seen a bracket yet that had that additional 5". BTW, the suzuki cover and design keeps that motor VERY dry, much drier than my efi ever was.

Re: 30\" Suzuki on Bracket
i have posted a picture of Dons twin engine bracket it is designed for twin 25" motors or a single 30" the single gets mounted in the center of the bracket at the deepest point. If you look at the picture the twin bracket it is wider than the single which gives you more flotation I belive it is designed to float 800 lbs of motor weight. The bracket is mounted very close to the bottom of the hull this gives you your flotation, you can check out dons site www.hermco.net

Re: 30\" Suzuki on Bracket
That is wider than my single engine armstrong, but is mounted about as deep as mine. At rest, the bottom of the bracket lip is about 1" off the water.

Re: 30\" Suzuki on Bracket
thanks for pointing out my error since this was a factor did not consider!
If i had a 30" shaft, in my case I prob have wrong bracket then. i measured and ran out of holes for 5" of room from my current 25" shaft and bracket. so thus the bracket i have cannot handle the 30" shaft without being moved up which would compromise floation. Anyway this is all dreaming For Me based on paranoia of seeing the engine sit a little low when coming off plane. the engine tech said no worries. If money no object and buying from scratch do 30" shaft and glass bracket that can handle that. Engine is then as far out of Salt as possible when it sits that near 3 feet back. I am running a 25" shaft verado 250 and armstrong bracket-i half dreamt about extending the shaft with a spacer kit, and then realized would need to move this bracket up to handle, and now realize it is prob the wrong bracket or would compromise floation. Its not worth the cost for reward, at least right now, in my situation. But if going from scratch it would be diff. And this is really about that last <5% of compulsive disorder -J

Re: 30\" Suzuki on Bracket
I almost had a nervous breakdown mounting my bracket, trying to get the max floatation, and putting the prop in the right place. Take your time and get it right.
