Peter, As you well know, it is a buyer's market out there. Although all are good boats without question, I would find it hard to pass up the contender. My friend has a 33t, which is a little bit bigger than the one on your short list, but it rides extremely well and it is very stable at rest. Pretty boat too.... However, I have never been on a 31. As long as the engines are new and in good condition, I would lean towards the contender. Then, I will sell my tracker-made 23 and buy your potter-made. It has been ten years since I have owned a Potter-hull....

[QUOTE]
Looking at getting a bigger sled. How do you think the ride of a 27' SeaCraft CC with twin 250's and an enclosed transom/bracket, compares against a 26' Regulator and a 31' Contender?

Shy? Hmmm.

Peter I have an intransigent older brother who is looking to do the same. His Mako is bothering his back. I tried , believe me I tried. Seems this time around he is asking for advice.

This gives me an idea for a summer Cape gathering. Millway marine! Camp on Sandy Neck. I can still point you to the Steamahs and Quahogs at low tide. Razor clams too. Careful please.

Ocean Master is the only choice I would consider for a lifetime boat in a 31. Dry, soft, and strong. 400k mi on some and still going!

Mark has a nice interpretation of the VDH, and it`s really heavy and steep. Newer ones are prettier and hi tech, but they don`t advertise a lot and are not on many lips.

Cheers ,
GFS

Have you considered fountain? I've seen a number of 31's for sale on THT for a good price. There are a few posts about some nastey looking cracks forming in contender transoms.

I have never been a personal fan of how the Fountains look (who knows maybe I am being short sighted).

The one possibly negative thing about the 31' Contender is that there seems to be a fair amount of wasted room in front of the console. I probably spend 90% of my time behind the console. If I did not have two kids in/approaching college I would have already pulled the trigger on a big bad ass center console. Unfortunately, I don't have that luxury. Stay tuned, more will be revealed.
Who knows, maybe I will end up using the SeaCraft for another season of offshore fun.

Thanks for the input.

Peter

I just had the conversation this evening about the 20' and 23' Seacrafts. They are about the best in all the boats in that size range. Now for the big boys. I have fished on lots of 27'-36' center consoles. The Contender by far exceeds most all of them with Yellowfin coming in second. Now a Hydra Sport will just plain beat you no matter what the size.
Like some others have said, you can find some good deals on Contenders, alot have been fished hard, but they are still going strong..

Peter if your interested in a 31 contender a friend of mine has one near asbury for sale. It is the "super console" model with 2 250 ox66 yamahas. I have only been on it once but it is a nice rig.

Peter, What about the Albin 26's? Stretched Seacraft 23, inboard diesel, and keeps you in the family! There's even one in Fla with a jackshafted Volvo. Good luck, Steve

I looked at one in the Keys with the diesel motor under the console and a Volvo duoprop. Sweet! Just over $100K, but Sweet!
