One other idea I'm in need of from us northern yankees.

How are some of y'all covering your boats for the winter?

I was looking into a canvas cover and ran across the tops that have zippers that account for the wakeboard arches. I have the radar arch, same theory I guess.

Curious what others are doing?

Any reason why you guys don't like the hinged style hatch? If you're concerned about water intrusion, try wrapping a piece of vinyl over the top of a piano hinge. I replaced mine with this style a couple seasons ago and it has held up well - no leaks and sturdy enough to stand on. It's actually 3 pieces - one small stationary piece to fill the gap on the forward end and 2 separate hinged pieces. I made mine from a piece of 5/8 fiberglass board.

If I were to do the savage conversion the hinged method would be the way to go.

The issue I run into with its current setup is, that in order to open in you have to slide it out then fold. It's not friendly to use when under way.

Smile Scepter Cuddy hatches

Zendora,

Your hatch looks very nice.

I have the original hatch on my Sceptre and the vinyl has mostly disappeared (I found some shreds remaining and deduced what it was). Now, after reading your note, I am going to get a piece of vinyl to cover the piano hinge and see how it works. Perhaps also will have to make a piece to seal the front end. Where did you get your vinyl and was it any particular type?

Where do you put your hatch when you are using the cuddy?

Zendora,

Where did you get the fiberglass board? I live down on the Cape, if it was near by that'd be an excellent find for a few planned projects.

Thanks guys.

Jon, its just a strip of exterior vinyl I got from a local upholstery shop. The thing is basically 3 pieces of glass board and 2 hinges - a small stationary piece on the forward end and 2 large hatches that open on the piano hinges. The aft piece folds flat onto the forward piece, then both pieces open up from the forward hinge and will lay against the bow rail. So to answer your question, I don't put it anywhere, I just open it to access the cabin. Hopefully that makes sense.

Yankee, a friend of mine who runs a boatyard on the north shore ordered the board for me, but you can find them online as well: http://www.jamestowndistributors.com...ct.do?pid=8758
