Well it actually was a pretty good fishing trip, and everyone had a good time.
The captain of the boat ran a 25' blue wave cc with a 250 Yamaha on a bracket, and I must say it was a pretty nice boat and gave a good ride, although we may have only had a 2' chop at the most.I was surprised how fast it was, we were in the mid forties for part of the ride, and he said he tops out at the mid fifties. There were five of us on board counting the captain, and casting from it was very stable. Now for the fish, we spent the half day trip fishing around the mangrove islands in the ding darling area wth shrimp on jig heads. We caught lots of sheepshead, a half dozen red fish, a bunch of trout, two lady fish, two snook, and some long fish (I think needle fish). The red fish were all under size, about 17 inches, so we ended up keeping about ten of the sheepshead for dinner, as well as two trout. They both were delicious on the grill. This was something entirely different from the down rigger trolling that I do for Chinook, and Coho Salmon on the great lakes. Its been a long time since ive spent a day casting with a spinning reel, but I had a blast, although my aim with a spinning reel was rusty, so I did get hung jp twice in tbe mangroves. This was also the fjrst time in my life that I caught any of these species.Im looking forward to the time when I can do it all winter. Pardon me for not posting any pictures (ill do it when I get home) but I was chasing my grandson around the house in a game of tag, when I actually heard a pop and was brought to my knees with a torn calf muscle. The pain was unbearable, but my daughter and daughter in law took good care of me.We're flying out of Ft.Meyers tomorrow (saturday) and will be stopping at the walk in clinic in Sanibel to have a doc bandage it up, give me some pain meds, and see if he will give me a note for a wheelchair for the airline (southwest) as there is no way I can walk even halfway decent on it. To make matters worse, we're flying into massachusetts to my home where its now very similar to places north of the artic circle.I can see why you Florida boys prefer to remain there. Enjoy the winter you lucky bas-tards hopefully, Ill be a winter long resident next year. Thanks all for your help, and info.
