Thank all of you for the great information. I got some nicer marine grade plywood today. I am feeling a lot better about the situation now!

I'm late into this topic, but IMO,the best place to get marine plywood is a specialty plywood distributor.
If you're lucky as I was (I worked there) you can find one that will sell you direct, but if not,you can have a REAL! lumber yard order it for you.
Unless you're lucky enough to find someone who actually knows something about plywood at Home Depot or Lowe"s,I'd stay away from them.

I used U.S. made A/B fir marine grade plywood when I did my transom. As you can see in the pictures,it's a clear face on one side and a tiny amount of football patches on the other side.Every ply is solid with no voids.
When I did this about 6 years ago my cost was $68.00 per sheet(4x8x3/4).

The picture of the strip with the black highlighted line(the epoxy glue)shows the amount of plys (8 used in each 3/4" sheet),and the other is a plug I cut after it was layed up. with some 1708.

The last picture is a morning in August when we were just getting ready to set up and drop lines in the water.Right know I'm looking out the window at the two feet of snow in my yard That never seems to shrink.Oh! how I wish I was back in that August morning
