I would agree with Ken! I was running in 3-4 foot seas in the gulf to dig up some grouper last weekend and at 20 knots the ride was so comfortable I could have taken a nap in the helm chair. We got passed up by a go fast boat with guys bouncing out of bean bags all over the back of the boat....not my idea of a good time......

24 knots with a little tab is pretty magical in the 23. Great fuel economy, ride and stability. Certainly the sweet spot speed in real world seas.

Spot on Moose!
I ran to Walkers Cay 105 MI out of West Palm. Loaded with fuel, equip & ice. 2'-3' seas all the way on auto pilot in that sweet spot........I miss the ride that no other hull can match

The only guy that get's more right, more often then Kmoose, is Santa! In fact it looks like they came out of the same mold.....!
Wait a minute. Now ya' got me think'in - Maybe he don't spend his whole time at the North Pole. Maybe he's slipin' and dogin' around up near Ocala and takin a spin out in the Gulf every once in a while in his Seacraft. And now that I think of it Kmoose always refers to his Sceptre as his "Sled". An if there was ever anyone who would qualify as Ms. Clause, I'd be Mel.
So anyway Ken, jus in case you were wonderin', I been real good this year and behavin' an' everythang. An I ain't put no frogs down Ms. Marsha's blouse, er teased her wit snakes er nuttin'. Jus in case you were wonderin' bout dat.
Signed, Ur buddy Terry

Robert never thought I'd say this a bout Verados but that's Superlight 400 ponies. that's lighter than a pair of old 2.4Ls . just do it. don't make the salmon wait. get 65 to 70 mph & get up and down the Snake and Columbia in a jiffy. Just beware of the big venturi around the Dalles. Like kmoose suggested, these boats are not designed to fly. Dem little strakes on the pointy end ain't really aleron. If you have any spare change I could use about $10k to update my little boat.

Merry lake x mas...

What's wrong with a blown hemi in an Olds Vista Cruiser? Sounds like fun to me.

Without making a radical change in the shape of last 6' or so of the keel line, there is no way to stabilize the hull at 60+ with only a single engine, and with twins you'd still have to be da&^ good on that helm. Chine-walking a single outboard without a flat pad on the keel running from the transom forward always leads to one of two things: getting scared and slowing down a bit, or losing control.

Remember, the VDH hull HAS NO HORIZONTAL PLANING SURFACES! When you get the hull up on to the center V section alone with a single engine, and with the rest of the hull out of the water, it becomes hydro-dynamically unstable. That's just physics and is unavoidable.

If you want stability in a SeaCraft hull at 65+ MPH, you need to modify the hull keel line, run twins with K-planes, or add hydrofoils and become foil-borne with the hull out of the water.

I've rigged a single 20' SF to go over 60 with a Merc Bridgeport, and it was extremely squirrely; no, dangerously squirrely.

Like so many, I LOVE the ride of my 20' Seafari offshore in 2' seas at about 17-18 mph. SSSMOOOOTH! No jarring my back, and I can ride sitting down.
