oldscool: your welcome to them ill be going new. As much as i like cool, older stuff i dont plan on going through all this to put old back on.
After being down with the kung flu for a week ive been able to get some demo done. Have her stripped down to the stringers and removed the inner skin of the transom. For the most part i left a 1 1/2" tab of the outside edge of the inner skin to attach to the new transom. Transom was like mulch, as expected. Will hopefully get new transom in within the next few weeks as long as weather temps cooperate and i can source materials. Planning on going with 1 1/2" coosa board for transom. Not sure what system i want to use, but planning the whole build for epoxy. The stringers are pretty rough. Cracked all over the place. I am planning on raising them and wrapping with additional glass anyway so not the end of the world. What do you guys think of height of transom cutout? ive read a few different things and it sounds like 26" is the way to go? What do you think about how much to raise stringers? I want it to be self bailing, so i was leaning towards a minimum of 2". Never tackled a project of this scope so any input/critisim is appreciated. Have only ever done small glassing projects and a boat load of studying on here. |

I suggest laying a temp height sole and adjust to your preferred gunwale height. I personally like it just over my knees for stability in rougher seas. Some have gone true Conch style and have a much lower cap height.

Crab,
Might want to stop by a few local shops that do restoration. They usually buy in bulk where it is beneficial to have it freight shipped to them. I know a few shops by me that I have visited, offered to sell me core and alike for their cost. A little flattery goes a long way and maybe a relationship for minor work needed! |

Almost have the old wood transom removed. Most of it came off with ease, except for the last 1/8 in. A 2.5 in chisel and hammer took a majority of the rest, and a disk sander is taking care of what’s bonded to the skin.
Beastley, South jersey lumbermans came through on a sheet of 1 1/2” coosa board. Thanks for the referral. Will be hopefully getting transom done within next few weeks, then onto grinding the inside of the hull and the stringer work. |

Hi Capt, I purchased 1/2 " Penske at Barnegat last year and 3/4" Coosa at Lockwood in Sayreville three years ago. I have your twin 1972 same blue. Good luck with your build
