Re: plug lining
What kind of penetrating epoxy is there? Great thread- I have to get my old tubes out and replaced too. I'm a little nervous to see what the surrounding wood looks like! When I checked the wood around the drains in an old MFG skiff I ended up re-doing the transom on years ago, it looked like peat moss!!

Re: plug lining
I've used this product before. (not on peat moss) Hard to tell how well it really works unless you tear apart what you have treated. But the concept seems right for treating exposed ends/edges of fiberglass encapsulated plywood(Seacraft Transoms)prior to installing fittings/drains etc.

Re: plug lining
Mark,
I'm doing the tube replacement how much extra tube is needed to flare? Did 1/8th over work?

Re: plug lining
Sorry - Just got back to this, but you got them done?
I did the four in my boat a few weeks ago. The Rot Doctor epoxy I have used before successfully, on my 3" exhaust transome penetrations, and it seemed to do the trick again. I did use 1/8", a bit less actually, and used white Boatlife Lifecalk around them. Nothing against 3M, just a preference. I'm not in the water yet, so we'll see. |
