Default Fishing in Florida

To all the Florida contingent. My family and I are going to be in the Orlando area for the next two weeks. Staying at the in-laws. Could you recommend a good guide on the east or west coast. I am willing to drive. My two boys and I are looking to get in some fishing and get away from the in-laws for a while. Any help would be appreciated.

Wish I had the money to support the four boat theory!!!!

Really depends on what type of fishing you would like to do. If offshore is your thing, you definately want to fish the east coast. Port Canaveral has been producing good amounts of a variety of fish. Kingfish, Cobia, Dolphin(mahi), Sailfish, and wahoo, just to name a few. I would recommend a good friend of mine, Capt. Scott Goodwin. His website is FISHTRAP.COM. He is by far one of , if not the best captains at the port. Gauranteed to catch fish and great with the kids. If inshore is your thing than maybe the west coast would be better. There are more Tarpon and Snook over there, although the east side produces mass amounts of Redfish in the Mosquito Lagoon. Hopefully this helps a bit with your plans. If you decide to book with Scott tell him Brian Meyer sent ya. Good Luck and Catch em up!!

ABSOLUTELY!!!! On the West Coast for Reds etc. There is a very good guide named Anibel Roman, fishes a ActionCraft boat on the Flats. Capt Roman's numbers are 813-679-6396 and 813-654-7677 If larger prey is on your mind, Contact Capt Sergio Atanes. He heads up a group of Captains that will take care of your offshore grouper needs. His number is 813-973-7132 On the East Coast, I really do not know anyone personally but down on the Strip there is a small marina with very resonable Charters on larger boats. Last time I checked it was about 65.00 a head for 6 people. or you can have the boat to yourself for a flat fee. Tell Them Ted Safarian sent you and to take care of you. Good Luck..If its a weekend and need someone to share expense let me know.

saltydog,
I live in central fl, and fish out of Port Canaveral (PC), and Sebastian Inlet (SBI) a couple times a week (saw fishtrap twice this week). The guys that have posted here have given you some good guides to reference. I would throw one other in which would be Capt Tim Fletcher with Cool Beans Charters http://www.coolbeanscharters.com. For bottom fishing grouper and snapper one the east coast, he is one of the best (tell him JohnB from the Florida Sportsman forum sent ya). Good guy to take your kids out with too. I also fish out of the west coast a couple times a month (offshore)
Now for a little local tribal knowledge.
We have had cold water move in on the east coast that has really slowed down alot of the fishing. The bottom temp recorded by a diver out of SBI thrus was 54 degrees. Even the best capts and charters are struggling to put their clients on fish. To make matters worse, the water on the west coast is too warm (I spent a week over there 2 weeks ago). You have to run 1/2 way to mexico to find keeper grouper some days (lol).
With all that said, we have been getting some Mahi Mahi (dolphin) and the kings have been pretty steady. It's conditions like this, it separates the exceptional captains from the rest.
One other idea is there is some pretty interesting Tarpon fishing going on over at PC. It's kind of a local secret, but we have some of the best tarpon fishing around over here, and there are a couple of guides that specialize in it. If you need more info, let me know. I don't fish them, but I know some people that do. I bet your boys would get a kick out of wrestling a tarpon on light tackle off the beach. Probably the best for tarpon fishing would be Capt. Jim Ross at http://www.captainjimross.com .
I don't know what your schedule is, and mine is week to week, but if you want to try and get together, maybe we can fish out of a SeaCraft for a day. In any event, enjoy the time with your family.
Cheers,
JohnB

Somehow I think Mickey Mouse is going to take a Back Seat to Fishing Trips. No shortage here..Looks like the other guys have the East Coast Covered..I've got the West Coast Covered....Just A note,,,You went too far for Grouper Capt...They are closer in than you think.

Can I just get ONE Boat Ready Theory?
