First part of my deck is installed

I was finally able to put in the first piece of Nida-Core deck. Since my better half did not understand why I am so exited I figured I would have to share my enthusiasm with people who would appreciate the excitement of laying down some deck material!!!

Trayder, where did you purchase the nida-core? I know composite one has it but they were not to receptive to selling it to me. Any ways i got some out of a place in Worcester for 170 a sheet? Also how far are you going to span with it on the deck? I am only using it on pilot house for my buddys boat, and a new winter back on my bhm, but so far i am very impressed. For those applications i am just taping the corners together then fairing the whole thing in.But i have not decided how to handle the end grain of the sheet, whether to dig out the core and fill and fair or try to tape around it.

Hello Hammer Slammer-

I purchased it from Composites One in Bristol, price was 160-170 a sheet. I have the business card of the gentleman that sold it to me, E-mail me if you would like his contact info, they even shipped it down fron their Maine location because they did have what I wanted in stock in Bristol.

I am going to dig the core out around the perimeters of the hatches and where two sheets meet. I then stuff a cut piece of epoxy coated wood into the void to "tongue and groove" the sheets together, once that cures I grind down the top a tad and lay 5808 to bring the two sheets together and bring back the height. For the hatches I will fill 3 sides with beding/fairing compound and the other side with an Epoxy coated piece of wood so I can screw in a piano hinge for the hatch.

OUCH!!!!!!!!!!! You guys are paying $160 to $170 for a 4x8 piece of Nidacore? Double OUCH. A fiberglass supply shop here in Sarasota sold me a 1/2 inch x 4'x8' piece of nidacore for $65.00. I used it to form the top of my transom cap and for the deck where the splashwell used to be in my 23cc. I will tell you, one layer of matt on the top and bottom and that stuff doesn't flex! I wish I could help you out. Thanks again for your awesome sight.

$160 for 3/4 inch with 2 layers of 18ox woven roven laminated to the sides and wet sanded, Even from Nida-Core down in FL $160 was a good price.

John G- Thanks, it is quite light, I can manage a 4x8 section easily by myself at least 1/3 the weight of Marine Plywood?

Otto- yup, no leaning post, need the room in the aft for fishing. I have a friend who runs a Contender 21 for charters and he ordered the boat without a leaning post, I thought it was nuts untill i fished with him, man lots of room and how often can you sit in a 20 ft boat while running along at 30kts?

Trayder I hear you about hear about leaning post. My boat came with ONE small Todd seat mounted really high and I thought man thats got to go. After a used it a couple of times I would not change a thing. There is tons of room with out the other seat and the one that there is tiny and works as something to lean against. My friends Robalo has the big bucket seats and I never realized how much room thay take up. You have very limited room between the seats and the splash well.
