Default My transom has an Ant Farm in it ....

I just started removing the transom in my boat ( I took some great pix if anyone wants - it's a 23' Tsunami ).

First, removed the transom cap ( it's an i/o ) up to and including the aluminum thru holes for the rope on the port and starboard sides. Cap comes right off. Great access to the transom. You know what rotted the crap out of much of the transom --- the damn drain pipes from the insulated boxes on the stern cap. MUSH! The other thing that did damage was the gimbel housings ( this is a double i/o ).

Anyway, I pissed off some of the locals living in the transom - an entire "ant hill", or "ant transom" rather. I wish I had the time, they would have finished the transom off in a few more years ! It's a Florida boat now in NY. These ants will be feasting on good bagels and pizza anyday now...

No surprises in the job ------ yet. Transom = 30% mush, 30% soaked, and the other 40%, located above the drive areas is in perfect condition. This 40% is sticking real good. Ho-hum.

Got 50% removed in 3 hours. Will get the rest done when this @#!$&* rain stops. While I am here, anyone have any suggestions or ideas that I should consider while in this area of the reno ?

Thx...

Alan, thats pretty funny, I had an ant farm too. Big black ones! The good thing about them is, the wood came out easier where they were eating.
