Default New Transom Ready - Install Question

Hey guys. I just finished glassing (2) pcs of 3/4" ply, cutting this to perfect shape for installation of my 23'Sceptre transom ( an i/o ).

I was wondering if anyone knows where I can borrow or rent transom clamps ( "C" clamps that have a 24"-28" reach ) to squeeze this new transom into place against the hull ?

Thx,

Alan

Look in your local Yellow Pages under equipment rentals - there should be about five pages worth I doubt you will have any trouble finding a local place that will have them.

Alb1111, why don't you do what I said and drill a few holes and place two 2x4's over top of each other on the outside of the transom and bolt it tight, then use c lamps along the top.

Chris,

Huh ? How ? Do you mean : take (2) 2x4's on top of each other for strength, mount them low or in the middle of the outside of the transom ( side to side as opposed to top to bottom ), drill through them and the hull and the new transom in a few spots, then bolt tight to sandwich the transom between the hull and the 2x4's ?

Then, use clamps along the top to squeeze there too?. Will this give enough "squeeze" for the entire transom to be sandwiched w/ enough force ?

Thx Chris

OK, here's the deal. Take one 2x4 put it horizontaly accross the transom, roughly one foot down, drill holes through both the fiberglass and the new wood, stick 4 or so bolts through with washers and squeeze the sucker tight. Do the same with another board a little further down, (this isn't rocket science), just make sure you have everything properly slopped up with what ever bonding material you plan to use.
You can easily fill the holes you drilled later.

Good luck.

Oh yeah, you might need a shitty old Bronco somewhere in this procedure.
