washdown thru hull strainer help
This question has been asked by others,but can't find it.I am planning on placing the thru hull for my washdown on the outside starboard step closest to the chine,and only about six inches in front of the trim tab.
Will it affect the dynamics of the tab as far as lift? I'm going to have a scoop strainer on the hull,so it will work to help push water to the pump while underway. This is really the only easily accessible location for the seacock.I prefer to put it on the port side on the second step in from the chine,but my transducer is right there,and the second step on the starboard side leaves me extremely difficult access to the seacock. The second step in also is where the trailers rollers are located,so thats also a problem.I also don't want issues with the kicker motor. I'm attaching a picture showing the transom(not quite finished) with the kicker and tab showing. Any comments or help would be appreciated.Thanks all.

Thanks, it's a good source of info,i had used it before.
I,m just wondering if putting the thru-hull that close in front of the trim tab,will affect any trimming effect in a negative way.

Second step starboard would be my choice if the rollers were not going to be touching it and you could make better access. It should not interfere with that nice little Yamaha kicker you have at 7-8 knts. On the outside step the thru hull may be in and out of the water during turns and such and I would be concerned like you are that it may interfere with the trim tab. Just guessing though.

I know you're right about it being better on the second step in.That's where i really would like to have it.I was also worried about it sucking air on the turns. Well i guess I'll have to bite the bullet and put it on the second step.I think i can move the last rollers a few inches foward without affecting anything. I,ll just have to bend my arm into an s shape to close the sea cock. The kicker was a steal,leftover new 2007 high thrust with power tilt and new never used.The dealer had it on the show room floor for a year,and gave it to me for $1,200 bucks.I couldn't pass that up. The white on the transom is Interlux epoxy prime coat.I still have to glass the rear cap back on. Everything on the transom will be removed(except tabs)when i paint the entire boat it's original red color. I'm almost at that point,hope to have it all done by the end of summer,and ready for the Great Lakes next sring. And thanks for all your posts documenting all your incredible work.I am amazed by your craftmanship It has been a huge help to me in this almost two year restoration. Thanks much

You could use one of Gem Products flush mount high speed water pick ups with no issues no matter where you mount it.

I checked out their site,nice stuff,but "holy cow,it ain't cheap.Just for the hull of it,what's the approximate price for a 1" high speed pick up? it looks like these pickups ane flush with the hull,yes?
