removeing paint
anyone know a good way to remove paint from my hull? the previous owner tried to paint red over the original red gelcoat and its starting to flake/peel. i think if i can get to the original gel coat i can get a pretty good finish thanks. and no i have no clue what kinda paint he used...

either way is going to be alot of work, you could sand it off and not burn through the gelcoat, or try a paint stripper, then you have to worry about the stripper attacking the gelcoat, try a little laquer thinner on a spot with a rag, hold it on, it the paint lifts it is probably an enamel, won't be as hard to get off, if it doesn't come off, it is probably a two part polyester, which means you have to sand it, prime it, and repaint it. like I said, a fair amount of work.

orbital sander? it has bottom paint on it too i eventually wanna get that removed... could i get the whole hull soda blasted??

You do that you will end up repainting the boat, the blasting puts pits in the gelcoat. Orbital DA with 320 grit, the up to 1000 grit if you plan on trying to restore the gelcoat, that id deffinatly the hard way to go.You can soda blast the bottom though.

Yep, depending on the paint you choose you will need alot of primer or some high build primer.
