Transom Fairing
Got the transom done on the sons SC20, you guys are a wealth of knowledge so turning to you...
Anyway...need to clean it up...combination of old gelcoat and new Epoxy and Glass so I need a fairing compound thats compatible with both....3M? Quickfair? Vinyl, Poly or epoxy based fairing compounds? Hopefully something I can get locally vs ordering via the web... Beach |

Re: Transom Fairing
If you laid up the glass with epoxy resin, you'll need to use an epoxy fairing compound.
For the most part, polyester based resins and putties will not cure properly over epoxies. The System three Quick Fair,is a beautiful fairing compound, and easy to work with. Where are you located? If you can't find it locally, you can get it from www.mertons.com he ships everywhere and very quickly. If you click onto where it says mertons catalog, you'll find it.The prices are not updated,on the online catalog,so call them to order.

Awlgrip makes a good fairing compound, Awlfair, comes in slow or fast cure times. it is epoxy based.

Re: Transom Fairing
John123 is correct! Epoxy fairing compound. You can make your own with phenolic microballons/spheres and collidal silica, it will spread nicely without rolling or balling up, and hang on a vertical surface.
