General Ride Question -- Sceptre vs CC
Still working on my Tsunami hull (Sceptre)....got into a discussion of the relative ride characteristics of the helm forward Sceptre versus a CC. I love the open deck of the Sceptre, but can owners comment on how they ride with the helm that far forward??? I've been considering a CC conversion (Savage layout), but I like a hard top with enclosure for going off shore like an express boat layout. It's hard to beat the open deck of the Sceptre for an offshore trolling layout. |

Re: General Ride Question -- Sceptre vs CC
I've asked this question before and the responses I got were that you get a better ride out of the cc due to the positioning of the helm. I think you may be unhappy if you change to the cc version. The only thing I never really liked about my 23cc was the lack of room in the stern which is were most of the action occurs while fishing. BTW the Sceptre has more cock pit space then even the 25 seafari. I measured them both while talking to Bigshrimpin last night(no jokes capt Chuck!) and the Tusanmi has about 1.5 foot more cockpit space.
When you gonna finish that damn boat strick

Yup Funny stuff... Very true and real. Love that show, been in several offices like that.I love to have fun and work should be fun. Some of the stuff we see in the "professional World" still amazes me. Some of the A$$ Clown Managers out there that think they are real leaders.

Re: General Ride Question -- Sceptre vs CC
What strick said. The Sceptre is a great riding boat, and you could square dance in the cockpit, but the CC will ride better due to helm position. However, you'd really need to get into some serious slop for an extended period of time before the ride characteristics of the 2 become evident.

Re: General Ride Question -- Sceptre vs CC
1bayou and Strick,
I've had my 23' Sceptre since new ('78) and also have spent a lot of time in 23' cc's, and will say the ride at the helm of the Sceptre is a lot different than from the wheel of a cc. If you look at the layout of the Sceptre, the helm is just about where the step-up is to the raised foredeck on the cc. There is a world of difference in the motion of the boat at that station than from sitting a few feet forward of the transom. When it gets snotty out, especially in a headsea, the best seat in the house is on the enginebox (mine is an I/O). However, how you drive and trim the boat also makes a world of difference too and you can compensate for most of the differences, especially if you have tabs. With respect to the issue of cockpit size, hands-down the winner would have to be a bracketed outboard Sceptre. You could have a half-court basketball game if you kept the transom clean. You will notice thumps and slams at the helm of a Sceptre/Tsunami that you might not on a cc. However, everything is a tradeoff and I would not want to give up my hardtop and 3-sided enclosure, especially here in the Northeast. If you are ever in the Boston area, you are always welcome for a ride. Scott, sorry, just saw your post after entering mine. Saw your Dad's boat the other day. Hope the family's well and hope to see you on the water sometime this year. |

Re: General Ride Question -- Sceptre vs CC
Gonna jump in here for a second for two comments:
Tsunami/Sceptre vs CC - I'm sure the CC rides a little better due to helm location, but when you factor in all the benefits of a cabin and a well thought-out bimini - I think the Tsunami is a better option. Put a windlass on one and you'll never regret the Tsunami (Sceptre). Besides you get storage for rods and gear. A place for the family stuff for the beach... I am really happy with mine. However, a boat as mentioned below is not just a 23CC, it's truly a different story ... STRICK - I was out trying to cast net for bait (2) weeks ago and saw an amazing reno'd 23CC w/ a '75 Classic SC sticker on the hull. The guy lives on the canal I was stalking bunker in. We started talking and it's the guy who bought your 23'CC. He lives in Bayshore, Long Island. He loves the boat. I told him I recognized the boat from the one-of-a-kind seat/console and bracket. I also told him that he probably has one of the nicest reno's around - made by some crazy-meticulous veterinarian... All true statements... She looks great and the new owner said that "he's happier with this boat than w/ his 26 Regulator... " |

Re: General Ride Question -- Sceptre vs CC
My Sceptre rebuild is 95% complete, anchor roller, windlass, builtin GPS/depthfinder, etc, I'll post some pic's. Have had several Sceptres and really enjoy them because of children and storage. My next project will be a CC. However its the hull and ride that counts. Also number of people onboard makes a difference.

Re: General Ride Question -- Sceptre vs CC
Snookered that is a funny clip. We have watch that show occasionally however this is the wording I was worried the good capt may pick up on:
Quote:
1bayouboy- I once saw the video "A long way in a small boat" by Bruce Brown, they took a 23cc and a 23 Tsunami and traveled the entire length of the sea of cortez twice!! and all I can I remember was thinking how gracefull that Tsunami looked when underway. What a Video strick
