I have been lurking on here and decided I would post pics of my project. I used to work on boats when I was a kid and swore I would never own one. Well years later I couldn't resist the urge and began looking again. I couldn't bring myself to sign up for payments on a 40 thousand dollar boat. I found the classic Mako site and saw what people were doing with their boats on there and came up with the idea to buy an old hull and do a complete restore. A friend who used to own the model Mako I was looking for told me about the horrible ride that it had and told me to check out the old Seacrafts. After seeing the hull online in photos I was hooked. The Seacraft just has such a sleaker look than the Mako I was considering. I was telling a co-worker about it and he informed me about the 20MA he has had in his driveway for years. He started it as a project and lost interest. We agreed on a price and I brought it home on the wreck of a trailer it was on. The boat has a new fuel tank that has never had fuel in it. The transom was redone for a bracket. He was going to do the exterior cosmetics of the transom hiself to save money and never did. I am still undecided if I want to go with a bracket or not. I ordered a new trailer yesterday and would like to have a professional look at the transom once the boat can be towed safely. The boat also came with a Stainless Marine bracket that is new but scuffed up. This may go up for sale if I decide to go with something different. I am from Port Saint Lucie and would appreciate any advice or suggestions.
Thanks,
Ken

Welcome to the site..good choice...and thanks for sharing your pics... I live in PSL as well, Southbend..so if you need any help etc. just email me. Also regarding your transom..tow your boat down to Don Herman at www.hermco.net you will be glad you did!!! Also put your Bracket on ebay or craigslist and get one of his Hermco (Potter) Brackets...just my opinion.!!!
Again, this site is a wealth of information..

Welcome to the site Ken. Those MA's are pretty rare, I believe even more than the Seafari! Fred's right about the transom and bracket, you're so close to Don that you definitely should have him take a look at it. That bracket you have doesn't have enough flotation built into it for most modern motors. I believe Capt. Lloyd had one like yours and he had to build a big flotation tank around it to solve the problems it caused, so check his posts for that info. I also did a post on the pros & cons of brackets some time ago that you may want to take a look at. I think they're a great addition to a boat IF done right!

I just picked up the new trailer. Hopefully I will get the boat transfered from the wreck of a trailer that it's on tomorrow and post some pics. Once it's on the trailer it will be time to start working on the hull.

JOEKEN,

Welcome aboard!

In the last two weeks you have self diagnosed a case of a terminal disease- SeaCraft-itist! This may be your last chance for a cure. Sell it all and enter therapy to prevent a relapse! Just kidding.

Where else are you going to make hundreds of new friends, most of whom you have not met yet, and new drinking buddy and a purpose for spending any money you may ever have-all in 14 days.

PS. Wise choice! Again, welcome aboard.

Lew, it's too late to try and help this young man.....it's in his driveway and he's already spent some time and money to start improvements. It's all over but the crying.......

Thanks for all the warm welcomes. Trust me I am already getting grief from the wife. Since we have been together I haven't had one cheap hobby yet. As soon as I get the forward bunks adjusted I'll post a pic of the new trailer.
