Recommendation on bracket for single on a 23
In regards to my build post (Was my sea craft an I/O?), I am looking at single brackets for a 250/300 hp 4 stroke.
Of course floatation is an important consideration. I just left the Miami boat show and looked at both Armstrong and Stainless Brackets. Both appear to be well made, but I have not heard much good or bad about either one. Hermco gets a lot of press about their brackets and there are a couple of others on the web, with little or no feedback I can find. Hermco are fiberglass brackets. Can folks who have redone 23 Center consoles please let me know their experience and recommendations. Thanks Chris |

Hermco, all the way! Get a double engine bracket for extra floatation then have him drill it for a single 30" leg motor. If any thing I would stay with fiberglass. Armstrong makes a floatation bracket but you will not get as much flotation and you have already seen what aluminum will do seeing the one that came off your boat. Dusky makes a fiberglass floatation bracket that they advertise on their web site that is nice looking but not as nice as the Hermco. I would think most would say hermans just because they were designed by Bill Potter just for the 23' seacraft hull. There is a guy not far from you making a nice looking one too but he would be crazy to start building them for the public...lol

I removed an Armstrong aluminum and replaced with Hermco's XL and would definately do it again.
