Rasing the deck, question about stringer height.

Hi Guys,

Just started renovating a '69 SF20. We are going to have the deck self drain out the transom, and need recommendations on how high to raise the stringers to keep the scuppers out of the water. On previous threads I have seen guys go anywhere from 2in to 4in. 4in seems like we would start losing gunwale height, but the last thing I want are the scuppers being too low! We are putting a Yamaha 150 HPDI on the transom, weighing 475#'s. Any guidance is much appreciated!

I suspect that you will find that most folks on here will tell you that motor is pretty heavy for that boat. That being said, I have a friend with that motor on a 20 (his is a newer tracker boat) and the floor is slightly wet at rest but not bad. If 2 people stand in a rear corner there is an inch of water in that corner. Hes been running it for years this way. I'd say 2 or 3 inches and youd be fine. I'm raising mine 2.25" but I'm only planning on a 320 lb Etec.

why not just use plugs in your scuppers? take em out and put em in when needed. Ive made scuppers out of 2'' pvc couplers with threaded plugs on the insides and flaps on the outsides, work great.

I did 2" stringer addition and 1 1/4" deck height. I also shifted the gas tank forward 6" and my batteries go under the console

I had a customer with a 20 who raised the sole 2" and it drained at rest. Its really tough to get a small boat to self-bail with that size motor (and still maintain a safe cockpit depth).
