Default looking for advice

well now i have another reason to take my laptop to work(lol), great site trayder! just goes to show ya that if you keep looking long enough on the net you can find what you're looking for. i am currently boatless in florida, but have been looking for just the right boat & there is no way i am going to pay new boat prices or carry a note that will leave me upsides down for 15 years. i've been on a few 19 classics and know it would fit my needs well. but i am hoping i can find some expert advice on the safari model. i already do alot of backcountry, skinny water fishing for redfish & snook out of my kayak and so i may not be looking for a pure fishing rig. the small cabin would work for overnight camping trips along the beachs here on the west coast of fla. any feedback on the safaris would be a big help. i am looking for a good solid basic hull that can be improved over time (aren't we all). i've been told the early 70's safaris were on the 19, 20 & 21 hulls anyone know for sure? thanks for all the free advice!

thanks steve, i saw both boats posted on boattrader (i think i should just make that my home page)lol. i will try to see the blue hull boat this week its only 11/2 hrs away from sarasota. the white hull i/o, looks good from the picture, maybe i'll give him a call as well.

are there any past or current safari owners who can give me a heads-up on what to look out for?

Make sure you check for soft spots in floor, foredeck etc. the boats were cored with wood and after all these years it is fairly common to have rotted wood/soft spots. They can be repaired but if you find some you should offer less for the boat.

I live in Sarasota and have a 1978 23' CC. I would be happy to keep my eyes out or accompany you to any boat you are considering for purchase. Capt. Brian

The front bulkhead that makes up the anchor locker is made of press board wood with no glass and is very prone to roat with all that moisture . It can be replaced with star board though . The same holds true for the cabin wall where the steering wheel is mounted - I Think the 20' safari outboard is a great boat .

i totally agree, the 20 seafari is a grrreat boat!, plus i got one, ill send some pics when i get them on the comp. for-roch - your right about the bulk heads, they are not completly gone but do need to be replaced, ill be using teak or mahog! and as for soft spots im proud to report i have none! and its the origional 1970 deck! if you find one, you will be thrilled!
