Default Covers for the rod holders

Owning a 20' I/O, I'm very cautious about getting water in the bilge. I've had trouble with splashing water and my starter. I've gone to one of those new electronic sensor bilge pumps that works great. I did discovered that my rod holders allowed rainwater to enter and go right down into the hull. I think I've solved the problem with rubber caps. Anyone else run into this situation?

What if you were to run fittings and tubing from the rod holders and have them drain to a place of your tubing. As the caps will keep the water in the rod holders, setting up drainage will still allow them to move the water, just to a place of your chosing...

THey sell a cap that has a fitting on it to run tubeing to direct the water where you want it to drian. They are very cheap also. THe other way is to buy the outer covers that mount between the holder and the deck and has a rubber flap that flips around and seals the hole. THese cost alittle more and are only offered for a few makes.

Rirer, I have one holder tadains ito my stern and I did as Joe has suggested. Perko has the gasket that goes between the holder and the glass and the plug that goes into the holder. I have lee's holders but the perko plugs work fine. They may not keep all of the water out but they dont allow much in either. If you dont put the gasket under the holder though and just cut off the plug aduse t like that you will lose the cap overboard.
