white bottom paint?

Anyone out there played around with white bottom (anti fouling) paint??

I was just looking at the images of your 18. Nice.

I put white Interlux Performance VC 2 part on my 23, which is not anti-fouling.

We just put Dolphinite's new clear anti-fouling on my brother's 23 unpainted bottom. It sprayed on easily and was barely visable. We'll see how it works out. They also make a white. Dolphinite

Otto be sure to let us know how the Dolphinite product works. We always shy away from the new stuff untill 2 years so we know how it works. I do know and we found out the hard way is if you have a MerCruiser or Mercury outboard do not spray the clear antifoul paint over the oem paint. It lifts the oem paint off the drive or gearcase and makes a really big mess. We sand the drive first then install TEMPO black first then spray.

Thanks for the comments on the 18. It's actually no longer mine - I sold it this past March and now only have the 20 (I fall a bit short in the four boat club). The 18 has a new home in SC now.

My boss and I will soon be applying Awlgrip's white bottom paint to a boat that we restored this winter. It is good stuff but it is not exactly white....more of an off white and after a few weeks in the water it gets darker. (The customer wanted white)

Let us know how that Dolphinite clear paint holds up. Up here they've had a bunch a problems with it. The dealer down the street applied it on a new boat (followed the directions on the can) and it dripped off. Dolphinite said the bottom needed to be sanded even though the can said you only needed to dewax. Then Dolphinite said that a shipment of the paint "FROZE" during transport and replaced certain batch numbers. Now they're talking about how some applications will need a primer, especially if you have ever used teflon polish on your boat....what the heck is the sense of the clear bottom paint if you need a color primer?? A clear primer won't be out for another few months.

Mark, back when I had the race boat(s) (sail) it was pretty important to have a nice white bottom. I tried everything here in Ft. Lauderdale, and ended up with Interlux's VC white 2-part epoxy (not antifouling). Best anitfouling paint we used is not real legal now, Micron 22 (tri-butyl-tin based). Its still available in the bahamas, or overseas. Petit makes the same stuff, and large aluminum boats over 80' are OK to apply in the US. Their stuff is known as "Alumiguard" and is available in small spray cans for aluminum outdrives at WEST. Sands out real nice, but is ablative and lasts a year down here. If you can get your hands on some Alumiguard (and are keeping it in the water for a season) you're good. Race boats still seek it out, and some south florida guys will run over to Nassau to do a bottom job. If you get down here again, I have 4 gallons stashed away somewhere, I won't use.
