Default horizontal rod racks

Alright guys, I have a question for any of you with the Potter era 20's that are into fly fishing: how do you store your 9' fly rods?? I had the inner liner of my boat cut out and the gunnels widened, so this does not directly affect me, but I know of several people who are considering these boats and I can see how that would be a sticking point considering that leaving the liner intact does not allow many options for storing the long rods.

Are the "windows" where the original rod racks were long enough if the rod tips were allowed to enter in towards the anchor locker?

What other solutions have you come up with?

thanks

The late 70's master anglers do not have any liner along the gunwales, giving lots of room for up to 8 - 9 ft fly rods if you alter the rear holders to have slots like the front holders. You can fit two in each of the top two positions.
The closed liner is a feature that turned me off to earier models, Makos, GWs and Whalers, to name a few.

One great solution to fly rod racks is a suction mounted fly rod holder. I had a pair of "I-Fly" holders that I wanted to mount to the console vertically for quick access, and I had some BIG suction cups from an old standard rod holder. I retrofitted the new I-Fly holders, and they worked so well that, the guy that makes them on the Cape (Bill Strakele) started manufatcuring and selling them with the suction cup mount. My buddy mounted them horizobtally under the gunnel of his new Pathfinder 23V, and they seem to work very well there. I plan to add a couple more to my Seacraft this spring. Here's the site if you want it... http://www.outercapeangling.com/ifly.htm Just make sure you have a clean smooth surface if you go the suction cup route.

Mark, never owned the bluewaters, but I know people that replaced them with these and prefer them.

that rotating cap certainly looks preferable to velcro...

The bluewater fly rod holders work very well horizontaly.
They are a tight fit with the velcro and cause no problems.
