36 days and 400 miles later
I finally picked up the boat yesterday. The trailer people had promised delivery a week before, but that didn’t happen. My wife and I went out Friday and got to work early Saturday morning in the snow. The new trailer is very nice, and fit the boat well. We weighted the boat and trailer down the road, and was very happy when everything worked the first time. Measured 420 lbs tongue weight. Made a test run down interstate 80 with the 4Runner, and paid my bill at the camper place. The 400 mile drive took about 7-8 hours and was pretty smooth.

Jim,
It's good to hear everything worked out and both you and the boat are home safe. You towed it with a 4Runner, huh? Do you have one of the new ones with the V8?

Yes, a 4Runner pulled that thing through the hills of Pennsylvania all the way to CT! Tow vehicle was a 2004 4Runner sport with the iForce V8 engine. Same engine as the Sequoia. The 03 and o4 models are larger than the older 4Runners. I never intended to tow anything that large, that far, however desperate times call for desperate measures. [img]/images/graemlins/shocked.gif[/img] I know a lot of you macho truck owners wouldn’t approve of this, but I ran out of options.
We weighed the set up at the T/A center down the road and came up with: 2640, 2700, 5660 on each axle, front to back, for a total of 11,000. With the boat disconnected to measure the tongue weight, we came up with this: 4Runner- 4920lbs, Tongue 420lbs, and boat axles 5680lbs. For a total of 11,020.

That truck was very well rated in consumer reports. I was thinking about one myself. How do you like it. Congrats on getting the boat home. Dave

Dave, The 4Runner has been great so far. Head room is not great but the size is good for what we needed. It's my wife's vehicle. [img]/images/graemlins/frown.gif[/img]
Bill, The boat will be in the downtown Hartford area where I'll be working on it (for how long I don't know). After that, she'll be down in Charlestown, RI. I was to get a mooring, but that got messed up. I trailer it from the parking area at the boat club to the water, and up RT 1 for gas
