Default Advice on rental in Cape Cod

We are planning to visit Cape Cod for a week this summer. Can anyone offer advice on a house or condo rental. I'd like bring the "little" boat, so water access would be important. The kid's like the beach. We have never been there and are clueless. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Otto, There are plenty of ramps aeound the Cape that you can launch at. You have to decide where you want to be and do some digging to find a decent place at a resonable rate this close to the season. Houses and condos can be hard to come by on short notice. I moved the boat up to Cape Ann and have lost contact with friends we had at Cape. But look in the Borne to Barnstable area and you may find something. Scotty.

Otto,
If you're looking for an area with all of the tourist things - t-shirt shops, mini golf, ice cream stands, fried seafood, etc. - look in Falmouth, Barnstable (mainly Hyannis), Dennis and Yarmouth. Although some feel these towns are too built up, if you've got an active family that needs to stay busy, this is the area. If you're looking for more peace and quiet, the outer Cape - Eastham, Orleans, Truro, Wellfleet - might be for you. Harwich and Chatham are kind of "in between" as far as tourist stuff and quiet.

All these towns have ramps, some public, some resident-only. Check this site for public access once you've determined a location - http://www.state.ma.us/dfwele/PAB/pab_table2.htm

Otto, How are you? Been visiting C.C. almost every year of my life. Family and friends in So. Wellfleet (end of bike trail runs length of Cape on old railroad bed). Awesome.Cape is only about 5 miles wide at this point. Beautiful ponds to fish or swim. Three ocean public beaches 100' above sea level. Kids will love the dunes. Don't know how to activate this but check out this site: www.thebeachcomber.com (two webcams). Bayside has public launches (Wellfleet Harbor). Bustin' 10lb. Blues mixed with Small and occasionally bigger Bass. Be there 9-11-04 thru 9-25-04. My buddy from there just left Bluffton. Let me know if I can assist thru him. 77 miles off the beach for his first time to the Stream- 7 schoolie Mahi, but Cobia still have not moved in. Hope you enjoyed HHI- sorry we couldn't get together. Keep in touch. Part II. 843 816 1516. Oh yeah, Otto, this is THE PLACE for Surf Fishing----Bring everything you've got!!!

Hi Otto-

I live on Cape Cod, in Yarmouthport actually and I would be glad to help you out in anyway in planning your trip.

First, try going to www.capecod.com for all things about the Cape... lodging, eating, activities, etc. My only real general advise if you have the budget, stay off of Route 28, it is the embarrassement of the Cape. Look for anything on Route 6A, mostly B&B's. Generally, the further down Cape you go, the prettier it gets, IMHO. Each town has it's good and bad tho...

Feel free to call me anytime (508) 760-0671 and I'd be happy to chat with you and tell you what I know, or drop me an email and I can help you out: [email protected]

Anything you need while you're here, feel free to call anytime...

Hope you have time to fish, I can take you to a few spots if you'd like. It would be great to meet another CSC.Com'er!

Gentlemen,

Thank you very much for the replies.

Vezo: I enjoyed meeting and hanging with your brother in Hilton Head. I took a bunch on munchkins and they trashed the place. Woke up the Captain by running the siren on the pumper - he came out all deshoveled ready to yell till he saw the kids. Everyone was terrific. Sorry we couldn't hook-up. We'll get it.

Hooper: Thank you for the offer. We're still in the planning stages. I'll do my homework and pin the wife down for some dates, then call you for detailed tactics. I appreciate it.

While I'm thinking about it, I have to tell you guys that have met several of you and formed telephone, email and even AOL IM relationships, I have to say that you all are a terrific bunch. The posible acceptions are Finster and PipeDreams. It must be a New Jersey thing. But wait, Scott's a great guy - what's their problem?

Otto - let us know when you are in and maybe we can meet you for a day. If you are briinging the little boat, you might want to think of something on the Cape Cod Bay side as you'll likely have better weather and a little more shelter. Nice thing about the cape though is that it's essentially an island (the trolls under the bridges keeping the "islanders" on ) and at least from the elbow up - quick to cross...

As for where to go? Do you want peace and quiet? Or tacky?

Otto-

You should definitely consider the Chatham area......great section of the cape to visit and plenty of little ramps to launch that 13 Whaler from.
