Default kicker motor, hp and location

I have an 1976 20ft master angler that I plan to add a kicker motor to this winter. My questions to those of who have experience on this topic, are 1. where would be the best location? 2. what hp motor, I am thinking either a 9.9 or 15? 3. Is there a certain bracket that works better than other? Any other thoughts on this topic would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Brad

I used a 9.9 on my 20 foot whaler it worked very well. mounting on the port side was recommended because of the additonal lift created by the prop (assuming motor is not a counter rotator) on the port side.

Sea Tow is my kicker costs a little over $100 a year and it doesn’t take up much room in my wallet compared to weight on my transom.

Thanks for the imput. I am acually not replacing my sea tow insurance with a kicker, but I would like to use it for trolling on lake erie. My 87 150 merc. doesn't care much for the low RPM's, she loads up really quick.

I have a 15 horse johnson that I use for trolling on my 18' Seacraft. It works very well. I use an aluminum and stainless outboard bracket with heavy duty spring assist. I would recommend using one rated a little higher than the hp you are using.
