23' SeaCraft CC contaminated fuel
I own a 1998 23' SeaCraft CC with a 2005 Yamaha F225D 4-stroke. The motor ran faultlessly during a rainless summer. However, after 5 inches of rain a few days ago, the motor quit and could not be re-started. There is water in the gas, and it seems probable that it came from the deluge of rain, probably leaking into the gas tank through a faulty gasket. Question: does anyone know if the fuel intake line and gasket are accessible?

It's probably the o ring on the fuel fill cap. I'm sure you'll have no problems finding it.
BTW, do you have a water separator filter?

Re: 23' SeaCraft CC contaminated fuel
Has the boat been sitting at all for long periods of time? I had problems with the Ethonol absorbing water and filling up my separator before I could draint it. The problem is we have a new baby in the house and I have not put the hours on the boat that I usually do. So with the high humididty this year I guess the fuel soaked up water that way, over the winter I will be installing a second separator as insurance. Just my two cents.

Re: 23' SeaCraft CC contaminated fuel
Yes, I have a water separator filter on the engine and a Rayco in-line filter as well. Both were full of water.I checked the filler cap and O ring, both of which seem perfect. No, the motor had not been sitting for a long time. I may have gotten some "bad" gas at a local marina ... I had that problem earlier in the summer. However, the coincidence of the problem happening directly after the first rainfall in nearly 2 months has me puzzled.

Re: 23' SeaCraft CC contaminated fuel
Could there possibly be standing water on top of the tanks causing pin holes and the water is entering that way? I know it is a strech but stranger things have happened. Let us know what you find.

Re: 23' SeaCraft CC contaminated fuel
I don't know if this is still possible but years ago I got a ton of water from the dock station. They had the leak and since it was almost empty I pumped my boat with mostly water.
Even though the tank was on shore it leaked and was full of dirt and water.

Re: 23' SeaCraft CC contaminated fuel
I had the fuel fill o-ring go out on me and cause an identical situation. Once I changed it, haven't had any prob since.

Re: 23' SeaCraft CC contaminated fuel
I have replaced the filler o-ring and both fuel/water filters. The engine runs perfectly again. Needless to say, I will monitor the filters after the next heavy rain.
