Putting in a new floor
I just purchased a 74 20' SF and might possibly replace the floor. If I do, have you guys who have replaced the floors added the lines on nonskid on the deck like the original finish or did you just make it smooth. Also is the front casting deck on the SF cored with wood like the floors or is it solid fiberglass. Thanks for the help.

Re: Putting in a new floor
The forward deck on my boat is cored with plywood. The fish box is insulated with foam around it. As for the non-skid there are several ways to go about it. If you can save the skin off the liner and it is in good shape (mine has spider cracks in it) then you can just re-use it. I think most here have just applied a commercially available non-skid to the top of the new floor over the gel coat or paint depending on which you use. You can buy a non skid pattern from a company (sorry dont have the link to it) or you can pull a mold off your existing non skid and make it look factory which will be a lot of work. here is what GW204 did http://www.classicmako.com/forum/top...TOPIC_ID=11920

Re: Putting in a new floor
The front casting deck is cored on the original with balsa i believe as is the rest of the deck. Good construction unless water intrusion rears its ugly face at which point the balsa is a sponge and sucks up the water only to deteriorate. I can recommend raising the deck height a few inches so that you dont have a "soup bowl" deck where the water comes in when a fat guy stands in the corner. I did one deck in a 20' seacraft and cut the deck out about 2" away from the edge of the liner walls leaving a small lip to fashion the new deck upon. We raised about 1.5" and it made a big difference in keeping the water at bay. Overall the deck is a pretty easy job in that particular boat as long as the original foam filled stringers are not falling in on themselves. Good luck.
