Default New Kodiak Livewell in the 20SF!

Well forget that 16 gallon square flawed design that floods the boat........that seacraft made...sadly....

I got me a Kodiak 17 Gallon Pro-Flow Tank that works like a dang charm!!!! And keeps the boat dry, and the weight forward.!

Made the overflow go out through the orginal thru hull, and connected the livewell right to her from the orginal.

Nice and simple, clean install.

If you turn your pump off you may get a siphon effect that drains the tank pretty darn quick(I have lost some bait in the past)...I have used my Kodiak for over 10 years the tank is as good as new.

Hmm... I guess we'll wait and see on that one. But I heard it was a good well, and if it's lasted you 10 years than I know it was a good buy. Thanks!

Had the same problem. I ended up installing an in-line all plastic check valve. $60 bucks but worth the money!

Kodiak really needs to move the incoming water fitting higher up on the tank so even if the siphon effect occurs the tank does not drain all the way. My tank is very good at keeping sensative shad alive on warm Texas lakes...and in Florida I have never lost bait in the Kodiak tank. The tank is the best tank I have ever used.

Help is appreciated,

Picked up a used oval 40 gal livewell and am planning on a stepped drain to allow me to run 20 , 30 or 40 gals depending on num of people and amount/type of bait.I have an 800gph pump for free flow and picked up another for recirc/ washdown duty.
Now to the questions.
1/ should the ricirc diffuser be as low as poss and w/ tiny holes for O2 infusion?

2/How close to the top of the well can I put the drain? It has a round 12" recessed hole w/ a downward lip in the middle

3/is there a way to prevent siphoning w/ out a check valve?

4/ who makes a good diffuser?

5/ it`s a poly tank. how do I seal the fittings?

Thx,
GFS
ps Nice Kodiak. Wish I didn`t have so much Scottish/ cheap blood cursing through my veins.

1. I put one about 2" from the bottom with an elbow to create a circular flow and one 1" from the top(above water level) with a slit to create a fan shaped spray for aireation. The one on the bottom is the one that will drain the tank if my pump shuts off.
2.I put mine 3" below the top and it could be lower. some water comes out on take off. I ended up makeing a seal with weather striping and a little latch to keep it shut tight.
3. As long as theres an inlet below the water level theres no way I could figure out how to stop it. It will drain down to that level. IMO an inlet close to the bottom is necessary to prevent bait from settleing on the bottom and dying.
4. I'll post a pic of the ones I made. Its a pvc threaded cap with a slit cut into it.
5.Plumbers putty

IMO 1100 gph minimum for that much water
