Fuel gage/sender problems
When I bought my boat the fuel guage was stuck on 3/4. I bought a new guage, it read 3/4 so I put the old one back on and replaced the sender (float type). It read correctly until I loaded up with gas, then ran 40 gallons out, now its stuck back on 3/4. Any ideas? This is a replacement tank, could it be sticking on something?

Try pulling it out and check it's operation while hooked up to the wiring and then check to see it is not getting caught up on a tank baffle. Baffles are plates welded inside the tank with holes in them to reduce movement of fuel.

Last weekend I pulled the sending unit on my Grady-White and found that it was mounted backwards so the float was hitting the back of the tank. The wiring was corroded so the gauge wasn't functioning, but I can only imagine that the gauge would have only read 1/3 full at best.

I am assuming it is hung on the baffles. How easy is it to install one with a different float system such as this http://www.amazon.com/Moeller-Marine.../dp/B000MTB7PQ Would i need to switch out the guage? My first thought is to shorten the arm on the existing sender, but I have to remove the live well to get to it. I only want to do it once more! Thanks for the help

Make sure you get the correct length if you go with the Moeller. You will not have to change the gauge and the hole pattern for the fasteners should be the same.

Have you checked the voltage at the sender. Some times the
ignition switch develops slight corrosion in the run position causing a drop in voltage and bad sender readings. Have found this to be a common problem. BOB |
