installing motor mount bolts?

Can someone describe the best method of installing the motor mount bolts in a new transome so that they are water tight, yet allow for removal during an engine change?

It is a PITA, but your best bet is too over drill a hole. Then refill the hole with epoxy or epoxy and cabosil creating a plug. Then drill these plugs to the correct size as you would if you had not made the plug. This way, the transom core never comes in contact with any water.

It is also very important that you drill perpendicular to the transom. I turned a piece of one inch aluminum bar stock to be a snug fir in the motor mounting holes and drilled it on the lathe for a 1/4 inch pilot hole. With the motor in place, insert drill jig and drill pilot hole followed by appropriate finished drill size. I think for the Merc they recommend a 9/16 hole. I used 5200 in holes and on bolts.
