Default High Voltage Output

I'm reading +18 volts on my '97 Evinrude 150. If I'm reading the manual correct, the problem could be in the stator and/or the regulator. Tried another voltage gauge with the same results. Anyone had similar problems & how did you fix?
Thanks in advance.

i would start with the regulator.... sounds like a good way to fry the other electric components

my 130hp went to 16 volts and my issue was a bad battery for that engine switched the batteries and the other engine went up to 16.5 new battery and so far so good

I have a '06 90 Optimax, and I had my voltage go up to 15.8v in Jan. Turned out I had a bad cell in the battery. Changed the battery and all's well.

My Rude went up and was just a bad connection on the batt - it will charge if isn't making a good connection
