Default Fuel Tank for an 18

I just purchased a 1979 18'. The tank is ok, but I know it is at the end of its life expectancy and will be removing this winter. Are there aluminum drop in tanks available or are most people going with a poly? Does'nt the poly require room for expansion. Trying to budjet ahead.

Thanks.

Eric

I don't have any answers regarding poly tanks but I just ordered the aluminum replacement for my '78 CC from Florida Marine Tanks. Their label was on the original and although they have moved from Florida to North Carolina the number is 305-620-9030. Price for a 47 gallon was $493. The new ones are being built with .125 material in lieu of .090.

Thats a good price for a well constructed tank with baffles. The previous tank (Don't know if it was original)in my 76 was 24" x 58" x 8"(About 45 usable gallons). If you feel like you need more capacity you can cut out the front bulkhead in the tank coffin and add 22" or about 20 gallons.

I have now located and talked with 2 owners ago of my boat. The original owner owned a marine dealership and replaced the tank about 10 years ago and also did the transom at the same time. I have been beating my head against the wall trying to figure out why the floors were soft and the transom solid as a rock.

Good luck I guess.

Greno, I just purchased a custom aluminum tank for my 18'. I had it made by C.L. Mattson in Tampa 813-248-8265. The price for the 50gal tank was $560. These people are great to deal with. Very knowledgable on all aspects of installation too!

Both of those seem to be great prices depending on shipping and where you are, I'm not sure I even filled mine up more 32 or 3 times, not running a 250 helps.

I had my new tanks made by Tony Perez at Sunrise Marine Tanks in Sarasota, 941-926-8265, www.sunrisemarinetanks.com
I would highly recommend him. He was not the cheapest nor the most expensive. He was very infomative. I also think he is a third generation tank builder to.
I know others here have used himmand been happy to.
Call me if you would like to.
He also built my custom water tank. Tony is the go to guy for tanks.
