Default 73 20' - Towing Weight?

Shopping for a new vehicle, and I'm interested in a couple that range from 5000 lb to 10000 lb towing.

I have seen the posts with old weak vehicles still pulling the boat, I know they will pull it, I get it. But, I have a long tow to the ramp, and don't want to strain the very expensive tow vehicle/transmission.

So, question is, what is the general ballpark weight of a 73 20ft superfisherman? Coosa transom, aluminum tandom axle trailer, 25" 150 etec on transom... (obviously, don't expect you guys to calculate weights of my configuration, just thought those general details would help).

Thanks,
Evan

A vehicle rated for 5000# is more than sufficient for towing a 20. I'd guess your fully loaded weight including trailer is in the 3000-3500# range.

Good to know. Coming from a V8 4x4 Durango (2001) that sucks gas but can pull 7000+ lb...almost feel like I would be stepping backwards to get into a V6 4runner, but they don't offer a V8 anymore. The fuel economy does look a little better though. When I bought my Durango, I looked at 4runners and an equivalent 4runner with a v6 only got about 1 MPG better, so torque and noise it was. Different story now, it seems.

I was/am also looking at a 4x4 RAM 1500 Sport, TORQUE and NOISE! Not sure which way I will go, but options are good, and fuel economy is not a bad thing either.

My 18 weighs less, but not by much. I am towing my 18 with a 2001 Honda Odyssey Van. It has a 3.5L V6 VTEC and pulls like a beast up the ramp. It is the stopping that is important. A V8 is a great option if MPG is close to a V6. Best thing is that the 98% of the time not towing I get 18/24 gas mileage with room for 7.

ElBichoMalo,
The '01 4Runner was a different animal than what came out starting in '03. My buddy has a '06 with the 4.0L V6 and it's much better than the previous generation that had the 3.0 V6. My father's friend has a '03 4.0 and tows a '09 Grady 209 Adventure (walkaround) with no problems.
