Default Seacret Compartment

I have an 18' Seacraft (1975) and in front of the center console there is a little area with a cover that slides over it and is held on by the leading edge of the center console. What is this? And can I fill the thing in with resin so it doesnt hold water? I looks like it might be set up for installing a fuel guage?

Thanks for any info.

Rob

Default ?

People often add a pie plate type access hatch for fuel tank inspection (though it could be square). Is that what you are referring to? If so, it is generally a good idea to regularly inspect the fuel hoses and connections for leaks, etc and some recommend hosing off your fuel tank with fresh water periodically.

Mine has one and I've seen pics here of others, too. I think it was put in at the factory. It's right over the fill hose fitting on my tank. I agree, it's good place for water to intrude. If I ever get time to work on mine, the console will be moved forward so that it covers the front edge of the tank hatch. With the 4 stroke on the back, I need forward weight and more fishing room in the back. That will cover all that up.

Reread your post and I'm not sure we're talking about the same thing. Mine is just a square piece of hatch screwed and caulked in place. Post a picture.

That's a good call on moving the console forward! That's how all the 80's 18SF's came from the factory.
