Default Fuel fill issue... 2" vs 1.5"

So it took an act of congress to get my old fuel fill hose out... It was going to a 175 gallon tank and had almost a 90 degree bend in it where the deck meets the hull. I had to cut an "inspection port" so I could cut it right about at the bend, and then pull one side out on the tank side (the fuel tank is out of the boat) and the other up through the fill in the side of the boat.

All that said, why the hell is it 2" vs 1.5"? Is 2" more common than I thought?

At any rate, I went to get some new hose, and realized how much easier the 1.5 was to work with and I have a much better chance of getting that back in than the 2"

Do you really need that larger diameter hose? I can't see it being an issue at the gas station, but who knows.

OK, so let's say I don't, any ideas on how to reduce the hose from the tank end? Also, Do they make a bronze 2" male to 1.5" hose barb for the fill end in the gunnel?

The dilemma is that my fill on my tank is 2". I could change
