Default Model year 1998?

I know the classic Potter hulls are the creme de la creme.

I came a cross a boat that I am potentially interested in. It is a 1998 25. It needs new electronics and a repower down the road. For the right price, if these hulls were okay, I would look a little further into the boat.

I did quick Google search to find out more about hull.... Fiberglass stringer system/no wood, 25' with 8'3" beam. Deadrise I found 20 at transom and 24 degrees at transom. Not sure which is accurate. Was not able to find if/where livelwell is located. I assume in floor and relatively small.

Who made the 1998 hulls and were they still known to be quality then or are they hit/miss?

A '98 was made by Tracker/Bass Pro and the 25' in particular is essentially a 23' with an integrated bracket/euro transom. There have been a couple members of this site with that particular model so they may be able to weigh in on the particulars such. The reason for difference in deadrise #s is because it is a variable deadrise (VDH) design - there are 3 running surfaces at the transom which average out to 21 degrees (I believe).

I used to have a 99 and it was put together like a tank
no issues with the one I owned

I got to see a 1998 25 up close last year and it was really nice. It was on it's 2nd set of 200 merc's. I wouldn't hesitate to buy one if I were in the market. Any structural problems would have shown by now.

I remember a series of posts way back, maybe 2004 from a guy who bought a new 2000ish 25' and was really pissed about some major issues with structural separation in the transom area. He was working with Tracker/SeaCraft around the time they were moving to the plant in North Carolina. I guess the dealer made a local attempt to repair it and it was never right.

Anyway, they are beautiful hulls and I have not heard anything negative other than that poor guy.

Ran a 2002 with twin 200 HPDI's for years. Solid boat that I would buy in a minute. Built by Tracker Marine. Some of the late models though had issues with the transom separating.

Man, Wish I had never read that post about the '99 25 footer above.

That said, I have a '98 23 footer that has held up well. Plenty of little issues, but most were engine related - and nothing major (knock on wood...). My biggest knock is around some of the layout (like that in-deck livewell), but nothing hidden there.

Going through a major rebuild currently in Stuart, and aside from some old wiring issue, they haven't found much that was out of line either.

As you're probably aware, SeaCraft has long and sometimes complicated history (some great threads about in on this site and on THT).
I'm biased (because I own one), but I've never heard much negative commentary around the hulls that came out of the Silver King / Seacraft plant in Punta Gorda, FL in '97 and '98 when they re-introduced the line. If they hull ID of the boat you are taking about begins with "SXC" its one of these.
