Which 23' SC cc have the most space behind the leaning post? I have seen some potters whose transomes have been closed with maybe 2'-3' and others seem to have 3'-4' behind the leaning post to fight fish. Is this because when they do the rebuild they move the CC and leaning post forward for weight distribution or were the earlier designs just further back leaving just a little room? So which years SC cc are best laid out for fishing in regards to space and storage?

good question. I have an 84 23 sf and the console seems to be pushed fwd a ways, like 15 inches from the front step up. doesn't look to have ever been messed with,is there a certain "cg" that's works best,
with these boats ,other than normal?> |

![]() ![]() I like my 23'SF. Add a Hermco bracket and you'll have lots of room.

You may have something there ---livetosea has a 84 and mine is a 73 haven't measured it but his raised deck in the bow is longer as I remember and he doesn't have the dry storage in front of the CC that would have allowed the CC to be pushed forward a bit but with different cc's it's hard to tell but it seams he has more room behind his seat/livewell

in my opinion the 23 inboard has the best layout.also has the best ride. a center console is made to fight fish from the bow - cockpit has little to do with fish fighting capabilities - fish are fought from the bow. bracket boats are actually tougher to fish and troll from - motors hanging way off the transom are less than friendly...

As you can see in this photo the space behind the leaning post is narrow.

Yea. That looks tight. Lots of room on mine to make a mess.

![]() Pelican is probably right. The 23 Inboard is the king for layout. Some have added doors for Tuna that are sick! The bracket set up is a close second (IMO) and the motor never bothered me too much hanging off the back.

I have a 1999 and love it. The scuppers are in a gutter, which keeps the floor dry and I have a horizontally hinged transom door, which gives more room aft of the leaning post. The compromise is that it must be folded down to fully tilt the motor. I think the newer models had an improved deck. I like my storage and livewell layouts. I do have a small console, more deck space but no head, very tight for batteries, harder to access wiring. Everything on boats involves trade offs, but I like my total layout compared to older layouts, and my transom was designed for the newer motors which are deeper and heavier. It may not be a Potter, but they did make some improvements, and there is no wood in it.
