I'm not certain of the day but it could not have been on Friday.
Three days and three nights in the Earth (Matt 12:40) and by Sunday morning (Luke 24:1-3) He had risen - the math doesn’t work. After the crucifixion the High Priests asked that the legs of the crucified men be broken to kill the suffering men quickly. The Priests wanted the bodies removed before the end of the day because it was time for Passover (John 19:31), the Jewish people observe the beginning of the holy day at sundown. Passover is a “special” Sabbath which does not necessarily begin Friday evening; it is celebrated on the same date each year. Passover begins the evening of the 14th of Nisan on the Jewish calendar (Num 28:16). This date lands on a Saturday about as often March 27th does – it is not related to the days of the week. Jesus was removed from the cross and His body was prepared for burial and placed in a tomb. For three days and three nights He was in the heart of the earth (Matt 12:40) and on the third day He rose again (1 Cor 15:4).
There are some loose bible translations and paraphrases that insert Friday as the day of crucifixion but that has more to do with tradition than anything else; Friday is not mentioned in the original manuscripts. I could be wrong, it happens often enough but my opinion is that Jesus died on Thursday. There are some very smart scholars that say Wednesday was the day. Regardless of how and when, of traditions or doctrine; today we celebrate the empty tomb. I'm just glad He is risen!

As for the eggs – I was hoping someone would know the answer.

Agree with your final part, the fact that he arose and acknowledging that he died to pay our sin debt are the two most important details.
