Default 23 CC tank and install

I have my 1973 23 CC Under construction for new deck enclosed transome and going to put twin engine bracket on for a 300 not sure yamaha or Suzuki. Question is what size tank and what would be the spec for tank placement ?

My opinion. 100 gallon is more than enough for the new engines with their improved mileage. I would put it as far forward as it will go. My 144 gal sticks back in to the bilge area and it's right against the front "fish box". If you go with a 100 gal you could go with a fresh water tank, say 20 -25 gal behind the gas tank and still not be in the bilge area.

Hey Oldboat,

Kinda depends on what you want to do with it. I have a 100 gallon tank with a 300 hp Suzuki. I regularly make 20-40 mile runs offshore. At 27 knots cruise I am burning right at 10 gallons an hour. Bump it down to 22 knots and I am way better than that. The new technology is pretty efficient for sure and my boat is WAY heavier than your with a tower and second helm. Good luck with the rebuild!!!

Agree with DonV. My 118 gal from Sunshine is plenty with the 300 4S.

Thx guys 1 will be making some west end trips out of Boca and some overnite trips to the tortuga so what about a 120 from sunshine but I just need the distance from the transome to back of tank maybe from some one who has done a 120. I have a 90 thats in great shape but just thinking a little more range. Cutting step putting conch cosale in and will put big yeti up front for more forward weight.

I had a 120 gallon built for my 1974 23cc.. I glassed in a bulkhead right behind the in floor storage and pushed tank right up to it. Had to install and glass new bulkhead at aft about 6-8" past main stringers towards the stern. New bilge access and plenty of room.. F300 Yamaha on raised 30" transom..
I have pics in my profile albums.. Good luck!!
